My February In Books

Though we’re several days into March already, I thought it would be a great day to look over the books I read in the month of February.  Give you a quick run down of the book, what I rated it and maybe a little about why, Idk?  Lets get into it and see where this takes us!

For starters, I read a total of nine books.  Plus two that I did not finish and likely won’t pick back up again - one of which I got 100 pages into before calling it quits.  But I’ll focus on the ones I did finish.

First book for February was House Of Sky And Breath, by Sarah J Maas.  This is book two in the Crescent City Series and was a solid five star read.  The first book of the series, House Of Earth And Blood, is about Bryce who was living her best life, when all of a sudden she finds herself paired up with a Fallen Angel, Hunt, investigating a series of murders.  Book two, dives deeper into the city and the Asteri.  Book two is my favorite book of the three in the series (so far anyway). If you haven’t read the Crescent City series yet, do it!  But if you’re new to Sarah J Maas, I suggest reading her ACOTAR series first.

Next up was book three of Crescent City, House of Flame And Shadow.  I loved this book.  I initially rated it a five star, but after thinking about it more, it’s more a four and a half.  Without giving away spoilers, I loved how it connected with other books ;).  I read this book so fast.  I couldn’t put it down.  With that being said, there were a several times I wasn’t impressed with what was happening in the book and I developed an “ick” for a character during many of those moments.  But still an awesome read!

Then we have, Broken Flames, by MK Ahearn.  This was an ARC read for me and you can read the review I wrote here.  But for quick reference I rated it a four star.  I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one.  It officially came out March 1st so go grab it!

I then read another ARC, The Last Moonlight Dragon, by Dorothy Mcfalls.  This was a strong three plus star for me.  About a girl, Celestine, who is the Queen’s Lady, gets turned into a slave and given over to the most feared Beast in the Kingdom. As they travel back to his region, she falls for him and secrets start unfolding.   Semi-spoiler - as I was reading it I would have rated it a four star, but the ending upset me enough I dropped that down to a three plus.

Next up, Never Too Old For Fairy Tales, by Melissa John.  This was not a book for me and it got a two star rating.  It was about a mom in her (40s?) who is in a toxic marriage, takes her daughter, solo, to an all expenses paid, fairy tale resort.  The company/magazine she writes for is sending her to review the resort.  I did not fibe well with the FMC, like if she was a real person, we wouldn’t be friends.  Harsh but true.  I finished the book hoping it would get better, but it just didn’t.

After that we have, Same Time Next Year, by Tessa Bailey.  First off, I love me some Tessa!  This book was on the shorter end and made for a quick read.  I gave it four stars and five spice rating.  About a girl who works at the local bar is asked to short term/fake marry her half brothers hockey teammate so he can stay in the states and continue to play.  They agree to do it for a year in hopes he can make it to the NHL.  Yup, love me some cinnamon roll, ice hockey romance!

The next book I picked up was Mortal, by Bella Lore.  I went into this pretty blind.  It is a teens fantasy about a girl who’s father dies and in his will sends her to a boarding school of sorts.  Upon arriving she realizes it’s not an ordinary school but no one will give any information.  I rated it a three star.  I was interested in the story, but felt it didn’t go deep enough for me.  It also ended in a terrible cliffhanger.  I don’t know if I’ll continue the series or not.

Then we have Married To A Pirate, by Athena Rose.  This book is all about Pirates, forced marriage, enemies to lovers, a whole lot of adventure, and everything you want from a pirate book.  I rated this one a four star, I really enjoyed it.  In fact I even added the next book to my kindle unlimited library to read possibly in March - we’ll see.

The last up for February was House Of Fae And Mist (Shades of Ruin And Magic book two) by Meg Xuemei X.  The series is about the daughter of the God of Ruin who is in hiding at an academy in another realm, disguised as a boy.  Book two was an easy five star and four spice read.  A fantasy rom-com, I couldn’t put it down.  I love the FMC’s witty personality and the banter between the characters is great.  I need to know what happens next!

And that’s a wrap for February.  Did you read any of these?  What did you think about them?  I would like to say I have an idea of what I would like to read this month, but I’ve come to realize I am more a mood reader than anything.  I never know what’s going to be next.

If you’d like to check out my TikTok wrap up, you can do that here.
