I Started A Book Hobby

I recently started a new hobby and fell in love with it!  If you’ve been following along on social media, you may have noticed I shared a few books I had transformed.  Either way, I thought I’d share with you, more about how I got into book rebinding!

It all started when my momma/book bestie shared with me a rebinding of Fourth Wing, By Rebecca Yarros done by @marts.and.crafts.  I saw it and immediately needed to have it!  But here’s the thing with me . . . Im a crafter through and through.  So when I said I need to have it, what I really meant was, “how can I make that?”

The best part of all of that, was the creator of this book rebinding I needed to have, also has the exact design available on her Etsy page.  It was fate!  But first I had to figure out HOW to rebind books.

Another little thing about me . . . I easily fall into rabbit holes and will research everything I need to know about the topic at hand.  Usually after that, I feel as if I can’t live without doing/partaking in said topic.  I get major FOMO and I find myself investing in said project.  Even before I truly know if its something I’ll enjoy doing.   Needless to say, Ive accumulated a lot of crafty things over the years.

Luckily when it comes to rebinding books, I ended up LOVING it and so the initial investment has been a good one.  Granted, Im a crafter, and half my office is full of craft supplies, so I had many items on hand to begin with.

While I waited for the supplies to show up at my door, I went through my already read books to pick a book to rebind.  I went with a book that I had purchased used and didn’t feel HUGELY connected to, incase I messed it up.  And went to work playing with designs on canva.

I wanted to start with an easy design but one that I could easily duplicate since the book is part of a series.  You never know, maybe I’ll want to do a full set rebind?

Once I had everything, I got right to start.  I realized that the hardest part of this was going to be the wait time.  I can be impatient.  But I took my time and enjoyed the process.  The completed project is FAR from perfect, but I’m pretty impressed with myself.  Not to toot my own horn, but I did a darn good job for my first try.

Since, I have completed three more books and truly love it.  It reminds me a lot of the scrapbook process and I was BIG into scrapbooking when I was younger.  I love it so much, I know I will be doing MANY more books in the future and so I also invested a few more dollars and got myself a few extra tools that will help make it all go smoother.  I’ll be sharing more about the tools I used, so stay tuned! - You can see the list here.

Funny though, I still haven’t redone Fourth Wing yet.  Im still nervous Im going to screw up the book.  I also told my book bestie I’d wait for her and we could redo it together.  But you better believe I’ll show it off once complete!
