March Reads Recap

It is the first few days of April, and you know what that means?! It means it is time for a March books read wrap up!

It is the first few days of April, and you know what that means?!  It means it is time for a March books read wrap up!  The beginning of the month was a slow start for me.  I took an entire week off of reading.  We also were hit with a lot of sickness in our house - boo to the winter season!  But I still read seven books this past month.

First up was a book that was sent to me for my birthday by an amazing book friend!  I even did a little book mail reel about it.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood - 4 stars & 3 spice

In this paranormal romance, the Vampyres offer up Mistery Lark to be the bride to the Alpha Werewolf, Lowe Moreland, as a promise of alliance.  Misery has her own reasons for why she accepts this marriage of convenience, but learning to love isn’t on that list.

This was my first book by Ali Hazelwood and I’ll be honest, I was not a fan of the writing style when I first started this it.  But it quickly grew on me and I found I couldn’t put it down.  I love me an enemies to lovers trope and it had me hooked pretty quickly.  It left off with a good happily ever after vibe, with a potential for another story between two other characters. Definitely one I would read fi it happens.

My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey - 4 star & 3.5 spice

I love me some Tessa Bailey.  Are there more spicy writers out there?  Yes.  But I love how she writes a solid story too.  My Killer Vacation is about Taylor and her brother, who take a much needed vacation to Cape Cod.  Shortly after arriving, Taylor finds the owner of the house rental dead in the house.  The family hires Myles, a bounty hunter as a private investigator and the two have a less than stellar interaction, when Taylor wants to help.

I loved the story between the grumpy and crude bounty hunter and the sunshiny vacationer.  With a little mystery involved and a whole lot of protector vibes, I was hooked.  It was a good quick, little romance to add in this month.

A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle L. Jensen - 3.75 star & 1.5 spice

A Viking historical fantasy romance about a shield maiden who was blessed by the gods and believed to unite the nation of Skaland, under the one who controls her fate.  Freya swears a blood oath to the Jarl, who then orders his son, Bjorn to protect her from their enemies.   She must work to prove herself, protect the kingdom and fight her growing attraction to her protector.

I have yet to rate a book in-between numbers like this.  I liked the book more than just “ok”, but I didn’t like it enough to be a 4 star.  I had a big love/hate relationship with the female main character.  I found her to be wishy washy on her stance.  You never really knew where she stood, what she believed in or who she liked/supported.  She started to grow on me in the last 50ish pages and I was left wanting to know what happens next though.  I’ll probably read the next books when it comes out.

Then I started the Throne Of Glass Series By Sarah J Maas.

If you’re on bookstagram or booktok then you’ve probably seen that there are several different ways that people read this series.  It is one of the reasons why I put this series off for so long.  Not to mention its quite a large series too.  So far I have no regretted reading the books in this order.

The Assassins Blade - 4 star

I started with The Assassins Blade because it is a compilation of prequel stories that give you a little insight into the female main character, Celaena Sardothien.  There are five short stories in total.  Im glad I went into this one first, although many say is packs a powerful emotional punch if you read it between Crown Of Midnight and Heir Of Fire.  I liked reading the background beforehand.

Throne Of Glass - 5 star

Celaena Sardothien, an assassin in a land without magic, is summoned to the castle to fight twenty-three other competitors in a competition to serve the King as his Champion.   A king she despises, but will do anything for her freedom.  While competing she finds that there is an evil within the castle and works to find answers as the story progresses.

I loved the dynamics of the main characters and fell in love with the Captain of the Guard. The story line builds so well with the world building and character building.  Celaena is quite a female character and we saw a side of her in this book I really liked.

Crown Of Midnight 4 stars

Although Celaena is the Kings Champion and now serves him, she’s keeping secrets that could cost her her life.  Then tragedy strikes and she must decide what she is willing and not willing to fight for.

The relationships are building, we’re understanding Celaena more and more, and it brought me to tears!  It was well written and I couldn’t put it down. I rated it a four rather than a five only because we loose a character I was enjoying and I fell out of love with the Captain.  But otherwise it was amazing!

Heir Of Fire - 4.5 star

Celaena is ordered to travel to another land to assassinate the rulers of another kingdom.  But we all know she has other plans up her sleeve.  We’re introduced to many more characters and there is a lot more world building that sets you up for the other books to come.  Another book that had me in tears.  Soooo good!

And that’s a wrap!  The month of April has started out with reading the remainder of the Throne Of Glass Series so make sure you check in and see how the rest goes!
